16 years ago I married a person I actually didn’t know very well. Yes, we traveled cross country so I could meet his family. Yes, we kind of lived together a little while before he popped the question. But no, we didn’t really know each other very well.
Chuck was in the Coast Guard and because of the threat of new orders, we decided to go ahead and get married. At the time it seemed logical. Now I look back and think to myself ‘what on earth was I thinking?!’ I think we knew each other about three or four months before he asked me to marry him. I picked out my ring and he gave it to me in the parking lot of the health club (where I was working at the time) because I couldn’t wait for him to ask me somewhere romantic. Yes, I know. I’m an idiot.
16 years later here we are. Two kids, a dog, two goats, a mortgage and a little credit card debt. Good, bad, ugly and beautiful – it’s been quite a ride so far.
All I know is at the end of the day I have a person that supports me without question. He can lift me up if I need it, make me laugh so hard I cry and without saying a word, I know exactly what he’s thinking.
Happy Anniversary – I love you.
and yes, we were babies when we got married 😉
