Wow, what a beautiful day on the Mendocino Coast! I grabbed a few items for Katrina’s booth at the Fair (Barra of Mendocino’s event coordinator) and Savannah and I took off for a quick one hour drive inland.
Feeling much, much better today – I was anxiously looking forward to seeing a few of my wedding-vendor friends and their lovely booths they decorated for the event. And boy oh boy did they not disappoint!
Along with the goodies for Katrina, I also brought my camera. I wasn’t sure if the girls had a chance to take a photo of their set-up, and since I was coming, I figured why not?!
From what I could see it was going to turn out to be a great day. The sunshine was out and already by 11:30 the parking lot was filling up. Quite a few moms, dads and daughters walking around looking and chatting with the wedding vendors.
I’m going to assume this was the calm before the storm…But I really only stayed long enough to visit with Katrina, Linda and Bob, Julia, Carmen and Christian and then finally a new friend Andrea. I did see some other familiar faces as well, but didn’t get a chance to swing by to visit as they looked too busy to chat with me.
From the beginning of the inception of my photography business, I’ve always centered myself around friendship first, business second. I have tried to reach out to my peers (other wedding photographers) as well as other wedding vendors, and for the most part have been pretty successful with my relationships I have built up. I have been pretty lucky in the fact that a lot of the ‘wedding vendors’ I work with, I’ve actually known for quite some time (gotta love living in a small town!) For example, I have known Julia way before my days of photography and Carmen…known her even longer. I happen to know Christian from yoga and not as a wedding event planning at the gardens.
Build relationships based on real, genuine friendship. It’s a win-win in my opinion.
It felt awesome to be in the room with all these powerful and oh so knowledgeable people today. I’d love to be able to spend more time with them, which I plan to do in the future.
In fact, I will hold Carmen and Christian to the coffee date we talked about. Knowing us, I’m hoping we actually get a chance to talk about business… 😉
And what’s a blog post without pictures? Just boring…and no one wants that!
